    • Your financial capability to purchase a business.  You need to know how much equity capital you have available, and the extent to which you want to borrow.  If you need to borrow money with an SBA loan, you need to become aware of the basic parameters and limitations on these.  You need to know how to analyze risk/reward and the effects of leverage.  You need to be able to structure a business model to assess these aspects.

Financing sources.  You need to become aware of the normal financing sources for small business acquisition, and the positive and negative aspects of each of them.

    • The other set of capabilities deals with your experience in the industry of the potential targets.  SBA lenders are reluctant to lend to people who do not have specific experience.
